The Lead Paramedic L&D (LP L&D) will provide preceptorship to graduate Paramedics employed by the Trust and will work operationally with new joiners following their induction to ensure the necessary standards are adopted.
The LP L&D will be managed by Operations but work with direction and support from the Learning and Development team.
As experienced band 6 clinicians (Band 6 Paramedic / Band 6 Ambulance Nurse) they will be expected to undertake the assessment and clinical development of staff within the NQP process, ECA's during their probation period and new joiners . They will also work with staff under the guidance of specific action plans. When working with members of staff during routine scheduled work, where no specific action plan has been developed, the LP L&D will be expected to assess the clinician's ability to work competently and safely within their current scope of practice and in accordance with Trust guidelines. The LP L&D will either follow an operational rostered line or work on a self-rostering relief basis (to be agreed locally) and facilitate the mentorship of staff undergoing remedial training and/or action plans set by Learning and Development Officers.
Successful applicants would either need to currently work at, or be prepared to work at one of the following stations:
- Central Sector - Swanage, Wareham, Poole, Wimborne, Blandford, Shaftesbury
- West Sector - Weymouth, Dorchester, Bridport
Main duties of the job
Main Duties
The LP L&D will support staff undergoing restrictions of practice by working frequent operational shifts as part of a crew in order to monitor their progress on their individual development plan.
They will co-ordinate with, and assist, the Learning & Development department, identifying training needs, developing staff and implement action plans set by Learning and Development Officers (LDOs).
LP L&D's will also support new joiners and work with them on their early operational shifts following the Trusts formal induction and preceptorship packages to ensure that new staff are supported appropriately.
LP L&D's will monitor and review Newly Qualified Paramedics (NQP's), including organising preceptor plan and reviewing the NQP portfolio during the first 6 months of the consolidation of learning period as set out by the trusts NQP process.
Produce written reports on a range of issues including student progress and compliance.
Maintain confidentiality in line with service policy and ensure compliance with Data Protection Act/GDPR.
The successful candidate will support crews and react swiftly to identify learning needs as well as cting as a conduit for communicating lessons learned, including complaints, adverse incidents and PSII's (Patient Safety Incident Investigation).
