Job summary
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting ACPs in Urgent and Emergency Care (ACP-UEC), to work within our Specialist Practitioner teams supporting a 24/7 rota, across Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire.
The clinical focus on this role is to hear (triage) and/or see, treat, discharge or refer patients presenting with urgent care presentations that would traditionally be managed within Primary Care, Out of Hours settings or Urgent Treatment Centres. The ACP will be ringfenced to attend category one incidents such as cardiac arrest or major trauma as the nearest resource.
ACPs will have an opportunity to embed all four pillars of advanced practice through an 80:20 clinical split, offering education and supervision to Specialist Practice teams, engaging in clinical audit and championing research, and supporting in clinical guideline development. You will be a senior clinical leader offering advice and support to all grades of ambulance staff and volunteers.
Applicants must hold a HCPC, NMC or GPhC registration, an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (or an NHSE Digital Badge) and a prescribing annotation. Where applicants do not hold an NHSE Digital Badge you will be supported to complete this during the first 2 years of employment.

- To fulfill the expectations and core capabilities of an AP as set out in the Trust AP job description. Working autonomously to an advanced level providing high quality patient care.
- Utilise the four pillars of advanced practice to support delivery of Trust objectives keeping with Trust values.
- To provide remote senior clinical assessment for patients and their families/carers when presenting to the ambulance service and/or when deployed and working as part of a care coordination hub.
- To manage patients presenting to the ambulance service completing full episodes of care through hear and treat or referring to alternative services as required e/g ambulance face to facce, ED or GP.
- To provide senior clinical support, supervision and clinical validation to operational colleagues, for instance registered and non registered clinicians and volunteers.
- To see, treat, discharge and/or refer patients presenting with undifferentiated presentations across the lifespan and acuity of primary, urgent and emergency care including responding to the full array of 999 presentations as determined by the EOC and local management teams, where required in response to internal and external pressures.
- To provide senior clinical visibility for EOC colleagues and trainee or qualified Specialist Practitioners in Emergency and Urgent care

- Masters Degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent (ie NHSE Advanced Practice Digital Badge)
- Independent non-medical prescribing annotation
- Contemporary portfolio displaying competencies in line with skills and attributes required for Urgent and Emergency Care
- Clean Driving License
Desirable
- Commitment to work towards an NHSE Advanced Practice Digital Badge, where this is not already held within 2 years
- Diploma in Primary and Urgent Care / Diploma in Urgent Medical Care or willingness to undertake within 2 years of employment
