Job summary

Responsible to the Learning from Deaths Lead, the Learning from Deaths Clinical Reviewer will support the delivery of quality for the Trust, ensuring safe, effective and high quality services, learning from experience with the welfare of patients and staff at the heart of this role.

The Learning from Deaths Clinical Reviewer will support the Trust in the implementation of the Trust's Quality Strategy to ensure the Trust meets statutory and national obligations to continually improve service delivery. An expert in Learning from Death reviews, techniques and practice, they will act as a resource on and provide specialist advice relating to Learning from Deaths for staff Trust wide, and deliver training to staff on review skills and associated processes.

Main duties of the job

The Learning from Deaths Clinical Reviewer will be able to employ suitable review techniques applicable to the Learning from Deaths process, producing high quality review summaries and presenting findings to relevant meetings and working groups.

Liaise with appropriate Trust departments and learning and development teams to ensure learning points from investigations are developed into Trust practice and, where relevant, national practice.

Support patient safety improvement activity ensuring that systems thinking, human factors understanding and just culture principles are embedded in patient safety processes.

Be a registered clinician and maintain clinical registration, by conducting sufficient continuous professional development and clinical practice in accordance with clinical guidelines and Trust protocols.

Deputise for the Learning from Deaths Lead and provide resilience for other roles within the team where necessary.

  • HCPC registered Paramedic or equivalent registered clinician (e.g. NMC registered nurse). BSc (Hons) or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Experience as a practicing clinician within the pre-hospital setting (applicants must have successfully completed the NQP period for paramedics)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the national approach to Learning from Deaths processes including Structured Judgement Reviews
  • Strong analytical and interpretation skills with an eye for detail and ability to resolve and deal with highly complex information
