Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for existing Specialist Practitioners in Critical Care to undertake a newly developed role within South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. Based within the Emergency Operations Centre at Exeter, you will be responsible for providing senior clinical oversight to ensure the optimum clinical response to the care needs of our most critically unwell patients.
Embedded within the Operational Delivery Centre, you will work closely with EOC colleagues including the Trust Incident Manager, HEMS Response and the Incident Support Response Desk. Your clinical acumen and situational awareness will be key to delivering in this fast paced environment - where information must be reviewed, assimilated and acted upon rapidly to ensure we are best serving our patients needs. You will liaise with our teams across operations to provide both proactive and reactive advice, support and expert clinical decision making capabilities.
Once fully resourced this role will cover a 24/7 shift pattern.
Main duties of the job
This role will offer clinical advice on deployment of response to our dispatchers, base on an appraisal of the information available through interrogation of the 999 call and utilisation of their enhanced knowledge of the critically unwell patient.
They will identify incidents where specialist assets may be required and alert the dispatch teams appropriately.
This will include working with partner agencies and commissioned service to ensure the most appropriate service to meet patients needs is deployed.
Further to this, they will provide senior clinical leadership in the event of a critical or major incident prior to the instalment of a Tactical Medical Adviser.
