The work is varied but in essence involves being responsible for the assessment, care, treatment and transportation of critically unwell patients working predominantly as part of the HEMS or ground based enhanced or critical care service.

There is a clinical element and an aviation element to the role with full training and mentorship being provided by senior clinicians and consultant doctors in pre-hospital emergency medicine.

The trainee role starts off at band 6 and will progress up to band 7 on full completion of the training pathway - on average this can take up to 2 years.

Main duties of the job

As a trainee you will work as part of an enhanced or critical care team progressing through your portfolio. Duties will involve the immediate response to life threatening emergency calls providing specialist interventions within the scope of your role as defined by South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASfT).

A large element of the role at Wiltshire Air Ambulance involves undertaking operational flying both by day and at night. This will involve working as a technical crew member in training working up to a qualified member of the flight crew. The courses, training and mentorship will be provided to you by the organisation.

Respond to major incidents as an enhance or critical care team as part of the SWASfT incident response plan.

About us

Wiltshire Air Ambulance is a registered charity providing emergency and critical care services to the people of Wiltshire, Bath and surrounding areas (under a mutual aid agreement with our colleagues in other services.)

We are at an exciting stage of our journey, from a single paramedic on the police helicopter to our own air ambulance, development of critical care paramedic training and the ongoing introduction of trained PHEM doctors into the care model. We are looking for clinicians with extensive pre-hospital experience who are keen and motivated to join our team as a trainee.

We are co-located with our excellent charity team at our purpose-built airbase in Semington, Wiltshire which offers excellent facilities and a great place to work. We attend incidents in a wide range of local environments including rural and urban areas, by air and by land. We attend a range of medical and trauma patients of all ages.

More information about our charity can be found atwww.wiltshireairambulance.co.uk
