Job summary
The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) role is a technical position. The role requires an extensive knowledge of network technologies, specifically CISCO Layer 2 & 3 switches, Fortigate & Cisco ASA firewall technologies, and a good understanding of and ability to support voice, video, client and server architecture on the network.
The post holder, alongside the other member of the networks team, will be responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of the network environment, to include coordinating any installs, moves, changes, break/fix and decommissioning of physical assets.
The post holder will also be responsible to the Head of IT Services and Director of Information Management and Technology, for the efficient and effective support of Information Technology and Computerised systems and services throughout the Trust, to support first class patient care.
Main duties of the job
- Plan and deliver the installation, configuration and management of the Trusts network environment;
- Maintain expertise in the operation of the Trust's Emergency Operations Centre's and the various supporting computer and communication systems, and use this knowledge to ensure that Information and Communications Technology resources are used to enable its effective operation. ;
- Produce detailed technical and financial plans for major Information Technology and Communications systems ensuring that they meet their operational requirements whilst ensuring that they provide best value
- Ensuring that a comprehensive patching scheme is enforced and maintained across the Trust;
- Design and maintain effective systems of data integrity and security and ensure that comprehensive backup and disaster recovery procedures exist and are operated;
- Translate business requirements for IT services into technical deliverables within the network environment. It will require a thorough understanding of industry trends and opportunities;
- Creation and completion of Preventative Maintenance Routines to support Service Catalogue items ensuring availabilit
- Ensure that comprehensive technical and system documentation is established, updated and maintained;
- Provide user training and documentation on all systems and applications used within the network environment;
- Provide out-of-hours cover for the Trust's business critical systems as part of a rota with others.
