Job summary

As part of the transition into Phase 2 of the Integrated County Leadership Model (ICLM), we are currently recruiting for Team Educators (previously known as Lead Paramedic L&D) across BNSSG.

The Team Educator will be assigned an operational team, alongside an Operations Officer to provide preceptorship to graduate Paramedics employed by the Trust and will work operationally with new joiners following their induction to ensure the necessary standards are adopted. Additionally, they will undertake additional workstreams and provide ad-hoc support to frontline crews.

The Team Educator will be managed by Operations but work with direction and support from the Education Department. They will either follow an operational rostered line or via Flexible Time Management (to be agreed locally) and facilitate the mentorship of staff undergoing remedial training and/or action plans set by Education Leads.

Appointment Criteria:

o HCPC registered Paramedic for not less than two years.

o NMC registered Nurse for not less that two years plus at least two years frontline ambulance operational experience

o Hold a mentorship qualification or willing to attend a course.

o Hold a BSc degree award or are currently enrolled on a BSc top up programme and/or have significant demonstrable equivalent experience.

Desirable Criteria:

o Hold a recognised teaching qualification such as PGCert, PGCAP, AET.

o Vocational assessor qualification such as CAVA, IOSH

Main duties of the job

Role Summary

The Team Educator will support staff undergoing supported practice by working pre-arranged operational shifts as part of a crew in order to monitor their progress on their individual development plan.

They will implement action plans set by Education Leads. Team Educators will record their findings on the Learning and Development Support form and return to the Education Lead for their approval. Any remediation of practice that cannot be achieved with the support of an Team Educator after an agreed TNA and realistic timescale, should be referred to the L&D team for review to understand if there may be a better means by which the learning outcomes could be achieved.

The Team Educators will take responsibility for the following

  • Self Referrals
  • New Joiners - Newly Qualified Paramedics (NQPs)/ECAs/Transferees (Scheduled Work)
  • Return to Work (inc Phased Return to Work)
  • COSOP or Other Remediative Support
  • Support of the Paramedic Apprentice Program
  • Administrative Duties
  • Assessment in Practice
