Data Architect (Internal only)

Job summary
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SWAST) are going through an exciting transformation in how we use data, analytics and business intelligence to support our patients and colleagues.
We know that access to information is critical so we're implementing the latest Microsoft technologies (SQL Server, Power BI and Azure) and looking to invest in new team members to support us on this journey.
We're looking for a Data Architect who has experience of continually modernising, optimising and improving data applications (data warehouse, reporting tools, data science tools) to meet broad and complex organisational demands. This will involve designing and implementing changes to those applications to ensure appropriate resilience, scalability and performance for thousands of end-users.
If you're passionate about transforming data capabilities and delivering innovative enterprise solutions we would love to hear from you!
Experience of Ambulance Services and NHS is helpful but not essential. More importantly you'll be highly experienced in the fields of data analysis, integration/transformation, business intelligence and data science, and be comfortable leading our organisation through change.
Main duties of the job
- Understanding of the Trust Strategy and how data can be used to achieve its objectives, ensuring that key requirements are elicited and documented to inform data architecture and solution designs
- Contribute to the definition and continual evolution of the Trust Data Strategy to ensure that we maximise the value from data for our patients, partners, people and organisation
- Designing the target data architecture and appropriate transition states, including detailed designs for specific solutions and/or components within the overall data architecture
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the critical data sources used for analysis, reporting and modelling at the Trust (e.g. Avaya, GRS, CAD) including the methods of interface / data extraction, available attributes, latency constraints, and potential data quality issues
- Work with colleagues from Data Analytics & Insight, Information and Communication Technology, Project Management Office, Transformation and external suppliers to define implementation plans for the proposed architecture and solutions
- Maintain an understanding of tooling and software used to support data architecture and solution design practices, coding and development languages used in data solutions, data warehouse and data lake design practices including appropriate techniques and approaches for data extraction, loading, transformation and querying
- The Data Architect will continually maintain an awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies
