Job summary

This vacancy is open to staff currently employed by Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, or the Integrated Care Board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The Clinical Matron will provide professional leadership management to the Nursing / Midwifery /Allied Health Professions' service' for Falmouth and Newquay Hospital to begin with covering maternity cover and then moving to St. Austell hospital for the remaining of the permanent position.

The Clinical Matron will be accountable for the efficient operational management of the NMAHP workforce, guaranteeing provision of high quality evidence based NMAHP practice which will be delivered within a hospital, community and outreach setting. The Clinical Matron will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to patients, carers and staff. They will have a particular responsibility to support the developments of Clinical Governance and Service Improvement, to modernise patient services and ensure the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated.

Initial months managing across the Central Community Hospitals with their permanent role as St Austell Clinical Matron from 1 April 2026

We have a unique opportunity, due to a maternity leave, to offer the successful applicant to work alongside the current postholder for 6 months, while managing the Community Hospitals across the Central patch.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Matron will provide strong clinical leadership with the services and be highly visible andaccessible to patients. Leading by example, they will drive up standards of clinical care and have theauthority to get the essential components of care right for patients - clean wards and departments,quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect, resolving problems for patientsand relatives and ensuring high standards are maintained throughout the services.

In undertaking the duties for this post, the post-holder must comply with the NMC/HCPC Code. As the CQC registered manager for the Site the post holder will also ensure on-going compliance withCQC Registration requirement
