Job summary
We are looking for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist passionate about community-based care for adults with swallowing and communication disorders, across Bodmin and Newquay. This post offers excellent opportunities for candidates to develop skills across a wide range of conditions such as stroke, progressive neurological diseases, voice, dysfluency, and dementia.You will join a highly experienced and supportive team, well-regarded by service users and multi-disciplinary colleagues, and supported by a team of support workers and administrators. The team works flexibly to provide intervention across outpatient clinics, home, video, and telephone appointments. You will also have opportunities to work with colleagues in the acute trust and specialists from other disciplines, social care, and the voluntary sector, with regular access to video fluoroscopy clinics and a new FEES Service.We are committed to personal, professional, and service development. We hold regular service improvement and governance meetings, with working parties involving all staff. We have regular supervision and appraisals, encourage self-directed learning, CEN membership and learning from others, including colleagues in other professions. We have also secured training for the whole team from national experts in response to developing clinical need.
Main duties of the job
o To provide a specialist Adult SLT service within the East locality, specifically to Bodmin, Newquay and surrounding areas in conjunction with other ASLT colleagues. In times of fluctuating demand the post holder may be required to work elsewhere in the West team or within the service.o To manage a caseload of patients, including those with complex needs, using evidence based practice.o To provide specialist Adult SLT assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties in hospital and the community setting.o To assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions as an autonomous practitioner, using independence of judgement and evidence-based practice.o To liaise with multi-disciplinary teams and relevant care professionals ando To provide on-going training to the multi-disciplinary teams and other agencies
