Job summary

Cornwall and Plymouth Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway have an exciting and dynamic Assistant Psychologist role. The Pathway is a developing service which offers the successful candidate the opportunity to develop a range of psychological skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust's Centre for Mental Health and Justice. This Assistant Psychologist post involves delivering and supporting services to the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway, the Intensive Integrated Risk Management Service (IIRMS) and the Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) Approved Premise. The post is held within the Centre for Mental Health and Justice which delivers four strands of clinical activity including the Homelessness Vulnerability Liaison Service, the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service, the Community Forensic Team along with us, the OPD Pathway.

This post will be based mainly within Plymouth and is a 50/50 split role between OPD/IIRMS and the PIPE Approved Premise. The combined role is working full time 37.5 hours per week. Job share will be considered.

The ability to travel independently between locations to fulfil the requirements of the post is essential as you may undertake work across Plymouth and Cornwall. Pool cars are available within the Cornwall area.

Main duties of the job

This exciting dynamic role includes:

  • Contributing to the provision of a Psychology service within the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway under the supervision of Forensic/Clinical Psychologist.
  • Supporting Probation Service staff to develop their psychological understanding of People on Probation screened into the OPD pathway. To assist in screenings, consultations, and psychological formulations alongside qualified professional Forensic and Clinical Psychologists within the overall framework of the team's policies and processes.
  • Delivering psychoeducational interventions both one-to-one and within group settings (such as the Minack Programme, an emotional awareness intervention).
  • Contributing to workforce development activities.
  • Contributing to the effectiveness of OPD Pathway delivery. To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential

  • Psychology Degree accredited by the British Psychological Society. Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of psychology. An awareness and understanding of contemporary issues in the field of mental health.
  • Experience working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities.
  • Previous experience working as an Assistant Psychologist.

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues.
  • Ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people, and demonstrate respect for service users and their families.
