Job summary
The Cornwall Adult Learning Disability Team is seeking a developmentalBand 5 /6 or a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team.
The post holder will work alongside a cohesive, innovative and dynamic MDT to improve quality of life and reduce health inequalities for adults with Learning Disabilities with communication and dysphagia needs. The post holder will contribute to service development, supervision of colleagues and autonomously manage a caseload of adults with complex needs who are referred to the service.
The post holder will provide communication and dysphagia assessment and interventions using core SLT skills for individuals with a learning disability e.g., Keyword signing, Intensive Interaction, high-tech AAC and mealtime assessment. This includes monitoring health outcomes and progress through review care plans.
The post holder will need to work flexibly, independently, as well as within the wider MDT. The post holder will need to be IT literate and have experience of adapting their communication appropriately.
The successful candidate will have post graduate experience at band 5 and/or band 6 level or equivalent. Experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities, skills for delivering training, and dysphagia competencies are preferred. We can support the right candidate to develop these skills if required.
This post is based in East Cornwall.

Main duties of the job
Successful applicants will offer a service to a caseload of adults aged 18 and over with learning disabilities, who are referred to the service.To provide supervision within the team.A key aspect of the role is delivering training programmes relating to communication needs and dysphagia.Deliver training with presentation and communication skills.
