This is a fixed term post, 12 months for maternity cover supporting locality CAMHS in the West of Cornwall.

We are looking for a band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join our growing psychology team within Cornwall CAMHS. The CAMHS teams offer a range of services according to the THRIVE model (AFC-Tavistock model) and specialist care pathways. The posts involve offering assessment and intervention for our specialist 'getting help' and 'getting more help' pathways as well as consultation and support into our newly developed Early Help Network consultation meetings. The post therefore offers a good balance between early help/preventative/consultation work and highly specialist interventions for young people with more acute and complex needs. Training and supervision in a range of interventions to deliver and support our NICE informed care pathways is supported and encouraged.

In collaboration with Exeter University we have trained a significant number of Clinical Associate Psychologists to support assessments and deliver CAMHS interventions in school settings. Working alongside these new psychologists, implementing our Psychological Therapies Strategy will be a large part of the role.

Main duties of the job

o To ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the Partnership Services for Children, Young People & Families.o To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other Psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment, including Clinical Associate Psychologists before and after training.o To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/team.o To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.o Responsibility to take lead in providing and developing a psychological service for specific clinical areas of specialism (for example cognitive behavioural therapy, family, trauma, and or developmental difficulties).o To propose and implement service developments and policy change within the area served by the CAMHS Locality teams and wider service

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a psychologist, working with children in either clinical or community settings.
  • Experience of working with young children with severe emotional/behavioural difficulties.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment, both as professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-agency care plan.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
  • Knowledge of the Children Act 1989 + 2004.

Training and Education

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology
  • Eligibility for registration as a Chartered Psychologist.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  • Evidence of undertaking training in supervision.
