Fletcher ward is an 18 bedded inpatient acute ward, which provides a safe environment for assessment and treatment of service users that are aged 18 and above with a mental health condition. the staff team on Fletcher ward consist of registered nurses, consultant psychiatrists, health care assistants, occupational therapists, activity co-coordinators, admin and a psychologist.

Patients admitted to Fletcher ward may be experiencing acute distress and present with a significant deterioration in mental state, risk of self-harm, self-neglect, or harm to others. we support patients that may be admitted informally or detained under a section of the mental health act.

This is a part time band 3 Healthcare Assistant position (31 hours per week). However, we would also be happy to consider people who are new to care to join an 8 week paid developmental programme to train as a Healthcare Assistant on the band 2 salary scale (22,383 pro rata). The band would then increase to band 3 following training and completion of the relevant competencies and assessments.

Main duties of the job

Education

Essential

  • Evidence of experience in care setting with patients with mental health issues or a disadvantaged client group
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification in care or equivalent experience
  • GCSE Maths & English or equivalent qualification
  • Willingness and competency to complete the Care Certificate within set timeframe

Desirable

  • Additional relevant training in Healthcare
  • Trained in Venepuncture or willingness to undertake relevant training

Skills

Essential

  • Experienced in communicating with a range of people, in writing and verbally
  • Able to exchange information using tact and diplomacy
