It is an exciting time to join our inpatient service psychology team in Cornwall. A recent significant investment in psychology provision and a commitment to clinical quality and excellence, has led to the creation of new psychology posts, including a new leadership structure across the county.
We are looking for a Band 7/8a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologists (Clinical/Forensic/Counselling) to work within our acute inpatient mental health services to not only support the clinical needs of our service users but also to support wider strategic developments of the service and staff teams.
Longreach House consists of 3 wards:
- Perran and Carbis wards work with working age adults with acute mental health needs
- Cove ward caters for older adults with mental health needs.
Currently there are two posts available one on Cove (this post) and one on Carbis (please see separate advert)
Over the past year there has been significant development in the Longreach house psychology team with a full time Clinical Psychologist (primarily based on Perran ward) and two assistant psychologists. We have developed a Trainee Clinical Psychologist placement and in the coming year we will be joined by a Psychologist Approved Clinician. Trainee Clinical Associate Psychologist posts are currently in development.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will work within a multi-disciplinary ward, as a key clinical member of the team. As a ward psychologist you will apply skills and expertise in clinical and risk assessments, collaboratively develop formulations and care plans, facilitate group and individual psychological interventions, and provide case consultations and reflective sessions for staff as well as teaching, training and supervision. We aim to roll out a tested a model for Acute Inpatient psychology provision, based on the TUILPs RCT where we recently worked in conjunction with Manchester University.
Your clinical expertise, training and experience will be valued, together with a commitment to supporting your career development and progression, with ongoing learning opportunities. Due to our commitment to your professional growth, we are developing a career progression model in which our 8a psychology staff rotate between differing inpatient environments every two years. Following a full rotation, further career pathways and opportunities, such as the Mental Health Act Approved / Responsible Clinician training pathway become available. This provides a framework through which we can meaningfully reward our talented psychology team, should they want to progress within the profession whilst maintaining a clinical leadership role. As a department we are also keen to support clinical associate psychologists, assistant psychologists, trainee psychologists and psychology interns.
