Job summary

This is a Band 5 developmental post within the locality of North & East Cornwall, including Stratton, Bodmin, Liskeard and Launceston Minor Injury Units.

This post will be based at any of the 4 MIUs in North & East locality, potentially on a rotational basis dependant on unit skill mix, candidate location will be considered

North & East locality have a vacancy for a supernumerary developmental Band 5 role. This is a rare opportunity to work within the sought-after urgent care environment, where a diverse range of patients attend. Units are practitioner-led and are committed to delivering high quality care to the local population. The successful candidate will be provided training and the supervision of the senior MIU teams, alongside the University Academic Minor Injuries & Illness module to develop them to Band 6 MIU Practitioner.

We are interested in interviewing candidates who are:

  • Aspiring practitioners who would like to develop further and obtain degree /masters level qualification (Band 5 development post)

You need to have a passion for urgent care, good communication skills, and a commitment to providing excellent care as part of the MIU team. You must be responsive to change and flexible in your approach. A sound knowledge of professional issues will be required.

Main duties of the job

Band 6 MIU Practitioner

  • To deliver, without supervision, effective assessment and treatment of patients utilising evidence based approach. Responsible for the care needs, the management of treatment and evaluation of clinical interventions, reflecting the needs of patients attending this Unit.
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care in unit

Band 5 MIU Practitioner (Development Post)

  • To deliver, under supervision, effective minor injury services to patients utilising an evidence-based approach.
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery of patient care in a practitioner-run MIU. Appropriate supervision will be provided by Band 6/7 MIU practitioners.

  • Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations Certificate
  • Post graduate specialist training to degree level in relevant subject area which must incorporate minor illness
  • Substantial post registration practice in MIU, ED/Emergency Care or similar; education and training including mentorship

Desirable

  • Experience in managing a team/service
