Job summary

Are you keen to make a real difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities and autism?We are looking for a dynamic Speech and Language Therapist with excellent communication skills to join our Community Learning Disability Teams on a permanent basis. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide assessment and interventions for adults with learning disabilities and autism with communication needs.You will be part of a vibrant, enthusiastic and creative multi-disciplinary community team based in Bodmin and may require some travel across the county to support/offer interventions as required for client in different areas of the County.The speech and language therapy team work closely with their multi-professional colleagues to deliver services following clearly defined and evidenced based care pathways; for example, for people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities and People with behaviour that challenges.The post holder will provide assessment and intervention for people with a learning disability and autism with complex communication difficulties and/or dysphagia. In addition they will contribute to the delivery of a well-established training programme that supports the Cornwall Communication Charter.This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a proactive, friendly speech and language therapy service with a robust clinical supervision process and continuing professional development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

As part of the multidisciplinary East Community Learning Disabilities Health Team, the postholder will be managing a caseload of adults over 18 with learning disabilities who are referred to the service.The postholder will provide communication assessment and interventions using core speech and language therapy skills for individuals with a learning disability. The postholder will contribute to the assessment of eating and drinking difficulties under supervision from specialist speech and languagetherapists. This includes monitoring their health outcomes and progress through review of their care plan.
