Job summary
Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Foundation Trust, CAMHS is excited to be able to offer a Band 8a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy post, as part of the redesign of our psychotherapy offer. This post will be based in the Cornwall CAMHS West locality teams of Penzance and Redruth.
We are seeking a ACP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist who is passionate about psychoanalytic thinking and working, and motivated to use their skills not only in supporting children, young people and families but also their colleagues within the CAMHS community. We are looking for a Child Psychotherapist with a broad range of experiences. This should include work with children, young people and families who present with high levels of complexity, requiring highly skilled, multi-layered assessments and intervention, along with collaborative practice in the delivery of their care. We are looking for an individual who listens to the voice of the child and is prepared to advocate on their behalf.
The successful applicant will provide a range of specialist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy interventions, including: Short Term Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (STPP), medium and long-term interventions, as well as State of Mind Assessments, specialist observations, parent work, and inter-agency consultations. There may be potential to offer more intensive psychotherapeutic work (twice or thrice weekly sessions) where clinical need arises.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialised Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy service to children, adolescents, and their families with complex psychological problems, both directly and through advice and consultation to other professionals, whilst working autonomously within professional guidelines and to the relevant policies and procedures. The role will involve both direct psychotherapeutic work and indirect specialist support to the team, overall CAMHS service and other agencies. Supervision and support of the assessment and psychotherapy provided by other Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment, including Trainee and Assistant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists is part of the role.
The post holder will be expected to work with complex psychological problems and distress and provide highly specialist individual, family and group assessment, formulations and intervention including Psychoanalytic State of Mind Assessment and specialist observations. It will be expected that the post holder will also provide regular supervision and consultation on client's care to non-Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist colleagues, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
