This practitioner would be recruited into a Band 5 developmental position and would need to be enthusiastic and ready to learn.

Cornwall Foundation Trust - CAMHS Intensive Support Team are undergoing exciting development and changes due to significant investment to support crisis mental health services for young people 24 hours a day across Cornwall.

We are therefore looking for individuals to expand our existing dynamic team that are good under pressure; place high worth in team based working but can also work autonomously; who have an unrelenting passion and dedication for working with young people and their families.

It is an exciting time to be joining Cornwall CAMHS with the recent opening of our amazing newly built in patient unit - Sowenna; Cornwall is leading the way on a ground-breaking Clinical Associate Psychology (CAP) service, the first of its kind anywhere in England and Wales. The team have just introduced a hospital based CAMHS Psychiatric Liaison Team which is one of the first of it's kind in the country.

The CAMHS Intensive Support Team work from Helston Health Centre. We work intensively with young people with acute mental health difficulties and are in crisis to prevent the need for inpatient admission where possible. We work closely with our new CAMHS inpatient unit and community CAMHS teams.

Work is on a shift basis over 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide short term, intensive mental health intervention for children and adolescents withcomplex mental health needs.
  • Working with young people and families as an alternative to hospital admission.
  • To provide advice, consultation and liaison to other child & adolescent mental health providers,particularly for Children in Care and Youth Offending Team.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • RMN or other professional registration such as social worker/ occupational therapist etc
  • Substantial post registration experience.
  • Experience of working with children and adolescents with complex mental health needs in a child focussed multi-agency setting.
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency setting.
  • Experience of assessment of mental health and risk.
  • Evidence of professional updating.
  • Post Qualification in Child & Adolescent Mental Health or intervention.

Desirable

  • Teaching or Training Qualification.
  • Evidence of plans for further professional updating.
  • Hold NMC Registration for independent and supplementary prescribing.

Skills and Aptitude

Essential

  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment in young people.
  • Can communicate and establish effective working relationships with children and young people and their families.
  • To impart sensitive complex information when there may be barriers to understanding.
  • Effective team player with the ability to initiate, prioritise and complete work autonomously.
  • Skilled at delivering training, advice and consultation.
  • Contribute to service development.
  • Interested in addressing training needs identified by service

  • A working knowledge of safeguarding children procedures.
  • To keep up to date with all necessary national and local guidance and maintain competency and skills.
