Job summary

This role is an exciting new band 5/6 developmental opportunity for a RSCN/RN child to join the community children's nursing team as part of expansion and development of the service and the team. As the team expands there will be a requirement for 7 day working across the hours of 8am-8pm.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and consolidate their nursing skills and gain an understanding of the community children's nursing role in a supportive environment.

We aim to meet the nursing and health needs of children and young people with complex and long-term conditions across Cornwall. Regular supervision and support is provided by a supportive and knowledgeable team.

Main duties of the job

This is an opportunity to join our community nursing team, where we aim to meet the nursing and health needs of children and young people with complex and long-term conditions across Cornwall. Regular supervision and support is provided by a supportive and knowledgeable team.

Our objectives are to:

Provide specialist nursing care, advice and support for children and young people with acute, long term, complex and palliative health care needs.

Provide individualised training for families and carers and multi-agency partners in respect of nursing needs.

Participate in delivering a county wide children's community nursing service working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Participate in the transition between children's and adult services where appropriate.

Work across health, social, education and voluntary services to maximise the quality of life for children, young people and their families.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Current professional registration - NMC
  • Professional qualification - RNLD, RNC,
  • Evidence of professional updating (CPD)

Desirable

  • Teaching or Training Qualification

Knowledge and abilities

Essential

  • Experience of caring for children with health needs / learning disability i.e Clinical skills (e.g. enteral feeding, medication administration, care of sick child, technology dependent children)
  • Recognise deteriorating child and understand the escalation process
  • Intravenous trained and competent
  • Experience of coordinating and or managing patient care.
  • Experience of working within an acute paediatric setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to deliver training & advice with support
  • Competent IT skills
  • A working knowledge of CQC standards in respect of care delivery
  • Good knowledge of child safeguarding
  • Demonstrates good communication and effective working relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Able to impart sensitive complex information when there may be barriers to understanding
  • Ability to contribute to service development
  • Able to work across professional teams and organisational boundaries
