Job summary

The Cornwall Speech and Language Therapy service has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Band 6 Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join our Mid Cornwall and Request for Help Teams . The post is made up of 3 days allocated to our new Request for Help service .In this role the post holder will be taking calls from parents and professionals leading to signposting, provision of information and advice or which may result in taking a referral . The post will be based in St Austell community Hospital but also lends itself to working from home for some of the week . Clinically it will cover schools , home visits and clinic appointments in the mid Cornwall area . You will join an established existing team based at St Austell Hospital and have access to regular supervision and support.

This post is available on a permanent ,full time basis

22.5 hours request for help team and 15 hours Community.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to participate in the delivery of a speech and language therapy service providing specialist assessments, intervention and advice for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs

  • Participate in the provision of a high standard, specialist Speech and Language Therapy service, providing specialist assessments, intervention and advice for children and young people including those with highly complex presentations.
  • To guide, educate and work alongside parents, carers and other professionals to support children and young people with speech, language, communication.
  • To participate in clinical governance and service development within the Speech and Language

Therapy teams in partnership with professional specialists, and other clinical leads.

  • Coordinate and lead a small local team of Speech and Language Therapists including chairing regular meetings to discuss caseload management and team needs.
  • To participate in the universal and targeted offer of the SALT service through providing advice and information through the Request for Help process

Education / Qualification

Essential

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent qualification).
  • To have fully signed-off the Newly Qualified Practitioner Competencies as set out by the Royal College of Speech Language Therapists.
  • Registration with Health Professions Council
  • Have evidence of attending and using specialist knowledge gained from post-graduate study and attending courses.

Desirable

  • Membership of the RCSLT
  • Fieldwork educator / Clinical placement supervisor /Experience as a clinical educator of SLT students

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical experience of working with autism, other neurodevelopmental disorders, and with children and young people with complex conditions and needs
  • Highly developed skills of clinical assessment, evaluation and intervention for children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams, with an understanding of team roles and professional roles

Desirable

  • Experience of evaluating service delivery and monitoring effectiveness and outcomes of intervention
  • Experience of leadership -coordinating a team and supporting them clinically and professionally
