Job summary

Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust's Centre for Mental Health and Justice is inviting applications for a Specialist Psychologist, Clinical and/or Forensic. This Band 8A Clinical or Forensic Psychologist post involves delivering and coordinating services to the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway and the Intensive Integrated Risk Management Service (IIRMS). The post is held within the Centre for Mental Health and Justice which delivers four strands of clinical activity including the Homelessness Vulnerability Liaison Service, the Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Service, the Community Forensic Team and the OPD/IIRMS Services. In 2012 the Cornwall Centre for Mental Health and Justice evolved from the Community Forensic Mental Health Team (CFMHT), one of the longest established CFMHT's in England. The Centre is based on the top floor of Cornwall Police Headquarters in Bodmin, ensuring high levels of sustainable partnership working with other Criminal Justice Agencies across Devon and Cornwall. Bodmin is easily accessible from a wide range of spectacular locations in the County. The Police HQ is a vibrant and positive working environment, encouraging the best of collaborative partnership working.

Main duties of the job

Cornwall and Plymouth's OPD service is well-established and seeks to support Probation Practitioners working within the Probation Service to work effectively with Personality Disordered Offenders. This is achieved through a thorough screening, consultation and formulation process. Furthermore, there are joint casework and workforce development strands. The IIRMS service aims to offer an additional layer of psychologically informed support and skills development to offenders who may struggle with the transition from custody to the community. The Psychologist post in both the OPD and IIRMS services is critical in developing formulations of offenders, delivering training and psychoeducational interventions and supervising staff. The post is a challenging and rewarding one, involving work at multiple levels of the system from Service User to Commissioner, as part of joint venture with Criminal Justice colleagues.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the wide range of activities of the Centre, including service evaluation projects, service development, CPD and Multi-Agency Public Protection work.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Just over 532,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
