The job is to work as an equipment library team leader to ensure the daily operational activities such as medical equipment loan, collection, cleaning, ordering parts and testing are carried out by the team efficiently and effectively. In addition to the team leading responsibilities, this role is a hands-on and the post-holder will be expected to participate in all the equipment library activities

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Duties/Key Results Areas:

1. Leading the Equipment Library staff to ensure the daily operational activities such as loan, collection, and testing of medical equipment are carried out by the team efficiently and effectively.

2. Managing the equipment library daily work schedule and task assignments.

3. Reporting the equipment library key performance indicators (KPIs) to the Medical Equipment Technicians Group Leader. KPIs such as number of equipment loans and collections, number of equipment found due for maintenance, and stock level variance compared to the critical limit targets.

4. Contributing to the formulation and writing up work instructions for the equipment library.

5. Training the library staff to perform their duties using the library work instructions and monitor staff performance to make sure that duties are carried out according to the instructions.

6. Using the medical equipment database system to update medical equipment library related records such as loans, test jobs, and parts orders.

7. Responding to requests for medical device loans from the library, identifying the appropriate device and ensuring that it is in a state fit for use, and delivering the equipment to a requesting ward/ unit in a timely manner.

8. Ensuring that the medical devices are moved safely and in line with Trust health and safety and manual handling policies.

9. Cleaning and decontaminating certain equipment on return or prior to their inspection or repair.

10. Performing equipment and parts inventory stocktake on quarterly basis and reporting the findings to their line manager.

11. Performing functional checks on equipment and checking for missing or faulty accessories and replacing them as needed.

12. Performing first line service on certain medical equipment as directed by the line management.

13. Under the supervision of their line manager, liaising with representative of external suppliers and service providers of medical equipment to ensure that the company engineers have access to equipment due for maintenance or update.

14. Collecting and moving medical devices from wards in cases of need, such as rollouts, incidents, alerts, etc.

15. Searching the hospital to find medical devices that are due for service and bringing them to the MDTS workshops.

16. Delivering medical devices back to clinical areas when they are serviced by MDTS workshops.

17. Helping with the assembly of new medical devices.

18. Using the device tracking system to find medical equipment across St Georges hospital site.

19. Checking incoming devices for due Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) dates and segregating them if necessary.

20. Providing advice to Nursing and Medical staff on the care of equipment within the hospital and promoting appropriate handling and safe storage of medical devices.

21. Keeping the computerised records accurate and complete, including making checks on the status and availability of equipment.

22. Making sure that equipment library stocks of accessories and other parts held by the library do not run out by monitoring and ordering stock regularly.

23. The post holder must always behave courteously and professionally and seek to ensure that the highest level of service is provided. Customers should always receive a high quality, prompt and efficient service and be kept up to date as to the progress of their outstanding requests.

24. To take part in the section meetings and contribute to the development of procedures devised by the quality manger to improve the service of the library.

25. To maintain high professional standards in all aspects of the job, and to seek to develop those competencies.

26. To comply with the Trust as well as the department policies.

27. To comply with the departmental locally maintained quality management system ISO13845 and relevant procedures.
