Medical Secretary for Medical Oncology

The Renal, Haematology and Oncology directorate consists of three Care Groups; Renal Medicine and Surgery, Clinical Haematology and Medical Oncology and Palliative Care.

The Oncology department provides a comprehensive service to the population of Wandsworth, Merton and Sutton Health Authority (approximately 610,000) and to some patients from Kingston and Richmond, Northwest Surrey, Croydon and South East London. The Department of Oncology provides expert services for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of malignancy and provides comprehensive clinical care to patients using inpatient, outpatient, day care and community facilities.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the of the role are as follows:

  • being responsible for the smooth running of the off site transcription service for the clinical team, within Trust targets.
  • attend department meetings, take minutes and distribute agenda and papers as required.
  • produce other general correspondence, which may include distressing or emotional contents, e.g. discharge summaries, memoranda and miscellaneous reports as required, ensuring all correspondence meets Trust standards.
  • assist in the compilation of reports, audits, teaching materials, research papers and slides within agreed timeframes as required.
  • prioritise incoming correspondence, ensuring that it is promptly dealt with by the appropriate member of staff.
