Blood Transfusion Network Lead

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Blood Transfusion Network Lead in South West London pathology (SWLP), to lead and develop the Blood Transfusion Laboratory service across thenetwork which consists of St Georges, Kingston, Croydon, St Helier and Epsom hospitals.

The post-holder will work to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and continue to meet all key performance and financial targets. Whilst support will be provided, you will need to have proven experience of managing a large diagnostic Blood Transfusion department, have in-depth knowledge across a range of Blood Transfusion laboratory procedures and Guidelines, excellent people management skills and a good understanding of financial principles. Continuous professional development (CPD) will be encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic leader responsible for directly managing the Blood Transfusion laboratories at all sites, ensuring that a quality service is provided in allareas this includes ensuringsafe compliance with MHRA and UKAS standards, delivery of all KPI's (including supplier contractors), turnaround times and Quality targets.

The role will require extensive experience in leading Blood Transfusion laboratories with evidence of good technical knowledge, effective budget management and senior HR management experience.

The post holder will act as the accountable Lead for the service across the network working closely with the Clinical Blood Science (CBS) Site Managers at St Georges, St Helier, Kingston, Croydon and Epsom.

There will be focus on the harmonisation of processes across the network as we are currently implementing standardized technology and LIMS on all sites.

This post is based at the St Georges site with an expectation of ongoing presence at all sites. It is a senior manager role within the Division of Clinical Blood Sciences (CBS) reporting directly to the CBS General Manager.

The Blood Sciences department on each of the sites operates a 24hr shift system providing cover to busy ED and other acute services. The department supports a range of medical specialities including ED, ITU, Maternity, Paediatrics, South West Thames Renal and transplantation service, Community and GP services and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre acute services as well as providing Regional Newborn Screening Service. Our busy Blood Transfusion Laboratories are fully equipped with Immucor Analysers and utilise Winpath and Telepath LIMS. Blood Track provides Blood and Blood Component tracking.
