Job summary

  • To support and deputise for the Ward Sister to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and other resources.
  • Also to carry out the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the ward/department.
  • To ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff, including pre and post registration students and /or providing specialist knowledge.

Main duties of the job

  • St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the country's leading teaching hospitals with an international reputation for patient care, education and research.
  • Belgrave Ward is a very busy general cardiology ward and is part of the newly formed Cardiology Clinical Academic Group to further developments in Cardiology.
  • We now have a permanent position for a Junior Sister (band 6) to provide day to day leadership of this busy 24 bedded cardiology ward.
  • Belgrave Ward is a dynamic ward that is changing with the increasing demands on the St George's Cardiology service, a regional tertiary centre delivering high quality care.
  • You will be expected to work as an excellent role model both for clinical skills and leadership.
  • You will be part of multi-disciplinary team working together to provide quality service provision, excellent clinical management and safe and effective discharge processes.

Professional/Clinical Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • RN (general)
  • Minimum of three years post registration experience, of which 12 months must be in cardiology as a band 6
  • Must be competent in 12 lead ECG and rhythm strip interpretation
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities
  • Knowledge of current nursing issues.

Desirable

  • Studying towards a MSC

Organisational Management

Essential

  • Ability to prioritise work and to co-ordinate the ward or department
  • Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care according to individual needs.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the application of leadership skills
  • Has good verbal and written communication abilities

  • Computer literate

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the application of evidence based practice
