Phlebotomy Manager

Job summary

The day-to-day organisation of the inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy services at St George's Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital, St John's Therapy Centre, Nelson Health Centre and Paediatric Outpatients, co-ordinating the management of the phlebotomy team in the safe collection and distribution of pathology specimens.

Directly support the matron to operationally manage allocated phlebotomy teams.

Work to ensure the department delivers optimum patient flow in the outpatient area's across all sites and deliver a timely and efficient service to all wards and areas covered, making recommendations to the matron on workforce allocation and skill mix.

Train, support, and performance manage allocated staff to ensure correct processes and behaviours are embedded in staff practice.

Manage the interface between phlebotomy, pathology, Sangix, the wards and outpatients to ensure a highly efficient and effective service for patients.

Ensure that the Trust delivers excellent care by supporting implementation of rolling customer care training programme for all staff, and performance management against these standards, and maintenance of a clean and presentable department.

We are looking for a candidate who is enthusiastic, reliable and flexible, to join our busy, friendly Phlebotomy Department .Previous experience in team leading, adult and paediatric venepuncture and excellent communication skills are essential.

To provide visible leadership for the phlebotomy team to ensure a high standard of patient care, providing support and supervision as required.

To lead on the achievement of high-quality data entry onto the phlebotomy systems and to implement performance measure procedures and audit to ensure collection of accurate data for the Trust to measure its performance against agreed standards. This includes Trust wide audits such as hand hygiene, cleaning and decontamination.

To promote standards of care, and in conjunction with senior colleagues develop these, incorporating current professional recommendations and evidence based pathways

To promote a multidisciplinary approach to care, recognising, utilising and valuing the expertise of other disciplines

To act as a positive role model and resource for health professionals

Candidates will be responsible for creating rotas, performing audits and performance reviews of Band 2, Band 3 phlebotomists & Band 4 phlebotomists

About us

We are a large, friendly and diverse team made up of Phlebotomists, Senior Phlebotomists and Supervisors that currently provides an adult inpatient service and adult and paediatric outpatient services across sites in Tooting, Roehampton, Raynes Park and Battersea.
