St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Research Fellow - NIHRCRF

The closing date is 28 July 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the NIHR Clinical Research Facility at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a CRF Research Fellow.

This post, based in the NIHR St George's CRF, would suite a dynamic individual looking to widen their experience and training in clinical trials, with an option to develop a small personal research project as part of obtaining the PgCert in Healthcare Research Skills and Methods.

It is a fixed one year position, commencing on in August 2025 for a person who has completed Foundation Training or equivalent. It is fully based within St Georges NIHR CRF and the successful candidate will work across a number of adult medical specialties, undertaking a range of activities associated with running clinical trials.

There will also be an expectation for the applicant to undertake a small personal research project in an area of interest with a supervising clinical researcher.

Depending, on the applicant's interests, there may also be an opportunity for experience in an outpatient clinic, although ward based clinical service is not included in the role.

Main duties of the job

The fellow will be based in the St Georges NIHR Clinical Research Facility and will work under the direct supervision of a number of principal investigators, running clinical trials across a range of adult medical specialties including: Diabetes and Endocrinology Gastroenterology , Hepatology, Rheumatology, Neurology and others. The focus of the activity will be on early phase (I and II) clinical trials, although there may be exposure to later phase clinical research.

The position will suit an individual who is interested in gaining experience of clinical and translational research, including trial design and implementation.

Candidates should be considering a career in a medical specialty, although it is not expected that they will have committed to a specific area at this stage. The role will include assisting with study feasibility and set up, assessment and recruitment of trial candidates, performing trial procedures under supervision, monitoring and recording outcomes and supporting the CRF nursing staff and others with clinical enquiries.

Although based in the CRF, the fellow will be involved in in-patient clinical trials and studies and will be expected to manage their time effectively to attend to time-critical interventions on the wards.
