Job summary
The Radiation Protection Centre at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to employ a consultant clinical scientist as head of radiation protection and to lead a team of 12 physicists and technicians to provide radiation protection services to St Goerge's hospital and a number of external organisations. The Radiation Protection Centre (RPC) is a section of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department, which also comprises of Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, MRI and Clinical Engineering sections.
RPC provides services to a number of NHS and private hospitals throughout the country. It is nationally the largest provider of RPA services as well as carrying out a large range of training courses, including IR(ME)R training courses, laser safety courses, and ionising radiation safety courses.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be the appointed RPA and RWA for a number of clients and is expected to travel to customer sites as part of the contracted services delivered by the department.
The post holder's main duties include the financial management of the Radiation Protection Centre, strategic planning for the development of the Centre, providing advice on ionising and optical radiation protection, delivering training courses, liaising with regulatory bodies and performing all duties expected of an RPA, RWA, MPE and LPA.
Because of the nature of the role a good amount of flexibility is given when it comes to working location and working times.
