Lead Nurse in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Job summary

The key roles of the post are in firstly developing a nurse led IBD clinic and teleclinic/telephone help line. Supporting the IBD CNS in leading the IBD biologics service including monitoring and administration of day case infusion service. The role will be key in providing patient focused care and supporting the prevention of admission and the facilitation of early discharge of IBD patients from the hospital. The lead nurse will be responsible organising and delivering education for health professionals with both the acute and community setting. The role will also be key in ensuring that IBD national standards are achieved.. The lead nurse will participate fully in research activities of the department supporting and the recruitment recruitment and supervision of IBD patients put forward for ongoing clinical trials within the department.

Main duties of the job

Focusing, where possible, on outcomes qualitative as well as quantitative.

To be the Lead Nurse in IBD using specialist knowledge and skills to assess the healthcare needs of people with IBD. To provide patients with health education, information and psychosocial support.

To set up and run nurse led IBD clinics, IBD hot clinics, teleclinics and telephone help line.

To establish a link with accident and emergency ensuring rapid triage of appropriate patients in to a hot clinic. To provide a link role for IBD patients potentially needing admission or admitted to the hospital to prevent or facilitate discharge.

To support the IBD CNS in the IBD biologics service including monitoring and administration of day case infusion service.

To lead education of health professionals and ensuring high standards of care are given to patients with IBD. To audit and evaluate the service provision.

To participate fully in all required audit and governance activity

To participate fully in the research activity of the IBD service including the recruitment and monitoring of patients for clinical trials.

To represent the trust and the specialty at internal and external meetings related to IBD.
