Job summary
The post-holder will be attached to the complex arthroplasty unit. The post-holder will be able to spend a considerable amount of time in theatre with opportunities to undertake cases under appropriate supervision. They will have exposure to a high volume arthroplasty unit and have the opportunity to learn cemented and uncemented primary and revision THA, primary and revision TKA and the spectrum of revision surgery including multiply revised cases and the use of custom components. They will gain particular experience in single and 2 stage revision for infection.
They will be expected to perform daily ward rounds and manage inpatients along with a specialist registrar and a nurse specialist. They will also take part in at least 1 outpatient clinic per week and have independent clinics under supervision as appropriate.
The post-holder will be expected to complete at least 2 research projects, attend research meetings and will be encouraged and supported to present at international meetings and publish their work

Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Lower Limb Arthroplasty
Applications are open for a Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellow in the Trauma & Orthopaedic department to work with in the Complex Arthroplasty Unit. Multiple appointments may potentially be made for fellows wishing to start in the next year. The next available post is in February 2027 and fellows are usually appointed for a period of 12 months.
St George's Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK, and is a major tertiary referral centre for pelvic and acetabular surgery, hip and knee reconstruction, hip preservation surgery, paediatric surgery, spinal surgery and complex trauma.
The complex arthroplasty team consists of three consultants with a specialist interest in complex primary joint replacement of the hip and knee as well as revision surgery. The unit received tertiary referrals from a wide area particularly for significant bone loss and infection. Elective work is split between the St. Georges and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre.
About us
The Trust has a devolved clinical management structure managed through a network of Care Groups. Each Care Group is managed by a Consultant and a General Manager.
There are several subspecialties within the Orthopaedic SDU and all surgeons work in close collaboration with cross referral of both routine and specialist cases.
The Trauma & Orthopaedic Care Group currently has 22 Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition to providing elective and trauma services to its local population the Trauma & Orthopaedic Care Group offers several tertiary services including pelvic and acetabular reconstruction, lower limb reconstruction, hip preservation, complex hip and knee revision and spinal surgery.
