Job summary

Assessment and treatment of a range of patients admitted under Major Trauma, Trauma and Elective Orthopaedics and Plastics.

Leadership of a team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Technicians working in Trauma & Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

Trauma & Orthopaedic Therapy Team covers: Major Trauma, Trauma, Elective Orthopaedics, Day Surgery, Plastics and Short Stay Surgery (Vernon)

Highly specialist therapy role providing daily support and supervision to Physiotherapists working within in the team and across the wider Trust

Highly specialist assessment and treatment of complex clinical caseload and support for other team members with their treatment plans and clinical reasoning to facilitate safe and timely discharge. Expert in respiratory physio, complex MSK trauma and neuro trauma.

Organises and provides clinical supervision, teaching, completion of audit and service improvement projects.

Leads programme for Physiotherapy student placements- annual review and planning of placements, including allocation and induction.

Deputises for B8a Principal Therapist role to cover leave- including covering E-roster and team recruitment

  • oMinimum 5 years post registration experience
  • oMinimum 1 years NHS experience
  • oMinimum 3 years working at band 6 level in the field of trauma & orthopaedics or musculoskeletal specialty, including the management of multiple trauma patients
  • oHighly specialist knowledge and experience in trauma & orthopaedics demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning, including management of spinal and pelvic trauma, fragility fractures, plastics and elective orthopaedics
  • oExpertise with treatment of respiratory complications in major trauma patients. (for example suctioning / MIE)
  • oAdvanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology underlying musculoskeletal conditions and assessment
  • oAdvanced neuromusculoskeletal experience in both an inpatient and outpatient setting
  • oExperience of goal setting and use of outcome measures
  • oGood experience of discharge planning in the acute setting and working with social and community services
  • oExperience of multidisciplinary team working
  • oTeam leadership experience
  • oGood experience of teaching and training in the workplace, including students and nursing staff
