Job summary

We are seeking a candidate with exceptional leadership and management experience to join our team in the Division of Medicine & Cardiothoracics. The organisation and the Division has an ambitious improvement journey to ensure it delivers high quality care to its patients and be the employer of choice for its staff.

As Divisional Chief Nurse you will be responsible for the leadership of all nursing and support staff within the Division, including the Emergency department, Medical SDEC unit, Endoscopy, Renal Dialysis, Day Units, Inpatient Wards and Clinical Nurse Specialists. You will work as part of the senior Divisional triumvirate to deliver the strategic plan for the Division as well as ensuring that all aspects of risk and clinical governance are robustly & effectively managed.

You will be based at our main acute site at St Georges Hospital in Tooting, London but may also be required to travel to our other community sites at Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton, or The Nelson Health Centre in Wimbledon. You will also be part of the Senior Manager on-call rota.

Working also as part of the senior nursing leadership team you will shape the future of nursing at the organisation and ensure that the voice of nursing is heard from ward to board. With a strong emphasis on clinical quality, safety and patient experience this role is pivotal in the delivery of Trust strategies and patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • The purpose of this role is to provide senior strategic nursing leadership in order to ensure and consistently develop a high quality, cost effective nursing service for patients. The post holder will support the Chief Nurse leading the development of the nursing agenda within the Trust.
  • The post holder will provide senior professional leadership to all nurses within the division and will develop the clinical leadership capability of nursing. He/she will lead on the development of education and research (non-medical) including a formal academic link with the Trust's key academic partners.
  • The individual will lead local projects to both promote and develop nursing at the Trust, and will be responsible for aspects of clinical governance (in conjunction with the divisional medical director, divisional director of operations and general managers), patient quality and safety and improving the patient experience.
  • As a member of the Divisional Management Team, they will lead effective nursing input into the development of Divisional Strategy, Policy and the Divisions Business Planning Cycle.
  • The Divisional Nurse will have objectives jointly agreed by the Chief Nurse and the Divisional Director of Operations and will work closely with the Directorate General Managers and Clinical Directors to jointly work to achieve the Division's vision and objectives.
