Job summary

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner working with outpatients diagnosed with IBD.
  • Provide telephone and/or face to face nurse-led clinics for IBD patients.
    • Advanced Therapy Clinics (biologics, small molecules) - new treatment starters and follow up appointments.
    • Advanced Therapy Drug Monitoring clinics.
    • Newly diagnosed IBD patient clinics.
  • Triage and provide advice and support to IBD patients via the IBD Advice Line Service.
    • Autonomous IBD Flare Management.
    • Non-medical prescribing within scope of practice in IBD.
  • To be an active member of the IBD Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and establish clear lines of communication to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients.
  • Lead on the coordination and management of IBD high-cost drugs in conjunction with the wider team.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the IBD MDT and Virtual Immunomodulator and biologics clinic (VBIC) in conjunction with IBD CNS colleagues.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide advice and support to other professionals including students, medics, nursing staff and other AHPs as required
  • To cross cover the roles of other IBD CNS team colleagues
  • Provide cross cover for IBD Infusion Suite - administration of high-cost advanced therapy drugs
  • To participate in the IBD users group meeting, Care Group and Directorate meetings.
  • Further roles will include provision of a link role to prevent or facilitate early discharge of IBD patients from the hospital
  • Participate in IBD Service Development
  • Mentor and provide personal development reviews for the Band 6 IBD CNS

  • Experience of working within IBD or gastroenterology within the last 2 years.
  • An advanced practitioner either through formal qualifications and or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the area
