Job summary

We are looking for an inspiring leader to join Women's Health team in the role of an Assistant Service Manager for Gynaecology. The post holder needs to have a track record of managing and leading teams in a complex and changing environment, a strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently. Experience of RTT and cancer performance management will be essential

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary service teams in Gynaecology to deliver performance in line with national waiting times. They will also provide support to the Service Manager with the development, management and implementation of project plans for Service delivery; Managing the Medical secretaries and patient Pathway Co-ordinators as well as attending KPI meetings and utilisation and theatre management.

Job responsibilities

The Assistant Service Manager will be responsible for the operational delivery of a range of functions within Gynaecology. The key tasks are;

  • Ensuring that operational plans to deliver access targets are put into place.
  • Managing and developing medical secretaries and other administrative staff
  • Working closely with the Outpatient Central Booking Service and 18 week team to manage the Patient Tracking lists
  • Provision of information to support the investigation and monitoring of complaints including coordinating responses to complaints and contacting patients as delegated by the Service
  • Co-ordinating annual and study leave requests (and locum bookings where necessary). Highlighting any potential problems to the Service Manager in a timely manner.
  • Providing support for the multi-disciplinary meetings within the Care Group
  • Supporting the development, management, and implementation of project plans for service delivery when applicable

  • Educated to an A level or higher standard or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of range computerised software
  • Evidence of on-going professional development/attending courses

Desirable

  • Recognised management qualification/ study

Experience

  • At least 2 years healthcare experience
  • Experience of managing and supervising staff
  • Previous experience in a patient/customer facing role.
  • Dealing with people of a variety of professional backgrounds and abilities.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an operational or project management role.
  • Evidence of appreciation and achievement in management of financial targets and budgetary management;
  • Experience of recruitment of staff
  • Evidence of innovation and achievement in management practice.

Knowledge

Essential

  • oA basic understanding of the key concepts of clinical governance.
  • oA detailed understanding of 18 weeks, diagnostic, cancer pathways and trust access policy

Desirable

  • oA good understanding of the changing NHS environment.
