Job summary

  • We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join the Breast Surgical cancer nursing team as a Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialist based in the Rose Centre at St George's Hospital, Tooting, South- West London.
  • We are increasing the Breast Cancer Nursing team to support our Surgical breast cancer pathway.
  • This role is to support patients through the surgical pathway as well as support when required oncology and stratified follow-up services.
  • We are looking for applicates for band 7 post with relevant experience although we could consider as band 6 (training post) depending on levelof experience.

Main duties of the job

  • As a Breast Cancer CNS you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring that patients with breast cancer receive the highest standard of care and support from the time of diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway, working in partnership with our specialist cancer multidisciplinary team you will manage these patients along the care pathway.
  • To be successful you will be required to have a good understanding of all Surgical and Oncology treatment modalities related to breast cancer.
  • Experience of working within this speciality and knowledge of the issues surrounding breast cancer care and treatment are essential along with advanced communication skills.
  • The post holder will be able to work independently to provide nurse-led services alongside our lead breast cancer nurses.

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse.
  • Post-registration qualification in Oncology or prepared to undertake.
  • An advanced practitioner either through formal qualification or extensive clinical experience
  • Degree (BSc) or equivalent

Desirable

  • Qualifications and Training Post-registration qualification in Oncology

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 5 years qualified experience with 2 years at Band 6.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing patients diagnosed with breast cancer or transferable skills from other cancer client group .
  • Experience in patient education and health promotion.
  • Experience working at a senior nursing level, advising the MDT on patient treatment decisions and patient advocacy.
  • Experience with chemotherapy protocols related to Breast Cancer

Desirable

  • Experience in running nurse-led clinics. To have proven experience of service development.
  • Experience of running research and audit programmes.
  • Experience of delivering presentations.

Skills

  • Ability to build up a rapport with patients and the MDT.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to impart complex information to patients, relatives and carers, with different levels of understanding.
