Job summary

Applications are invited for the Clinical Fellow post. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior clinical fellow in obstetrics and gynaecology (ST6/7 equivalent).

There are opportunities to develops a special interest would exist in foetal monitoring, advanced labour ward practice, ambulatory and benign gynaecology, and medical education.

The senior clinical fellow will work on the general obstetrics and gynaecology rota.

The post-holder will also participate in the Acute Gynaecology Unit (AGU) rota.

This is an 8 week rolling rota with a weekend on call every 8 weeks - 5-9pm Friday, 9am-9pm Saturday/Sunday. This is then followed by a week off. For 4 weeks, there will be a 5-9pm on call per week. The day can differ per week. This is then followed by 2 weeks with no out-of-hours on call.

Main duties of the job

The senior clinical fellow will work on the general obstetrics and gynaecology rota. This involves working a 1 in 8 on call rota on the senior registrar rota (ST6/7) comprising of 1 in 8 weekday nights (Monday to Thursday 2000-0830) and 1 in 8 weekends of days (Saturday and Sunday 0800-2000) and nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday 2000-0830). They will also work 4 long days on Delivery Suite (08.00-20.30) per 8 week cycle.

The day time duties will be on the senior registrar rota and will be tailored to the interests of the successful applicant. These will include antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology ward rounds, gynaecology and antenatal clinics, gynaecology theatres and elective caesarean section lists. It would be expected that the fellow would be given time for special interest sessions in their chosen field and would be encouraged to register for the relevant ATSM. The daytime gynaecology cover is provided by acute gynaecology fellows who run the acute gynaecology unit between 0830 and 2100 daily. St George's maternity unit has a strong track record of training in intrapartum fetal monitoring using a fetal physiology and the senior clinical fellow would be expected to attend weekly training sessions.

He/she will be expected to participate in the Trusts system of governance and audit, and maintain their CME/CPD. He/she will also have a commitment to participate in the Trusts professional development. The appointee will be expected to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedure, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust
