Job summary
- The regional Hand Unit at St George's Hospital is a busy outpatient department treating adults with traumatic hand injuries and chronic hand conditions.
- An opportunity has arisen for an experienced staff nurse to join the established multi-professional team.
- We are looking for a dynamic nurse with experience of caring for surgical patients.
- You will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills and a keen willingness to learn. Time management skills are essential as you will be expected to manage your own workload in our nurse led dressing clinics.
- Our nursing team participates in continuous personal and professional development; we will provide training and a supportive learning environment.
- As part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will be contributing to the delivery of the highest standards of care to our patients.
- Providing excellent surgical nursing care.
- As skills and competencies develop taking charge of dressing clinics and actively participating in the development of the service.
- Supervising and mentoring junior staff.

- Their expertise extends beyond just dressing wounds; it encompasses a comprehensive approach to healing, minimizing complications, and maximizing the potential for full recovery.
- The responsibility of running a hand trauma clinic or assisting a hand consultant goes beyond general organizational skills.
- It demands specialized training and a comprehensive understanding of hand anatomy, injury types, and relevant medical protocols.
- Beyond the obvious logistical support, effective assistants are adept at maintaining patient flow, pre and post op care, supporting rehabilitation.
