Job summary

Applications are invited for locum Neuro consultant posts with an interest in Neuro. The post holders will join the Neuro on-call rota.

The post holders will have sessions in neurosurgery, neuroradiology and general anaesthesia. The posts additionally include annualised sessions which can be used to maintain flexibility and skill level across multiple specialty lists. Annualised sessions are performed when needed by the department and chosen by the individual.

Main duties of the job

The vacancy is a full time post of 10 PAs, with 9 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 for SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal, additional responsibilities of the post holder and revalidation with an opportunity to increase as interests develop.

The job plan template is based on an alternating working pattern, weeks AC and weeks BD. Some operating lists are three session lists, for continuity of care and theatre efficiency.

Session times (inclusive of CRA (clinical related activity time)

AM - 08:00-13:00 (5 hours - 1.25PA)

PM - 13:00-18:00 (5 hours - 1.25PA)

EVE - 17:00 - 21:00 (4 hours - 1PA)

All inpatient day sessions start at 08:00 and run until 18:00; 10 hours which equates to 2.5PAs. Half day sessions are 5 hours which equates to 1.25PAs. Three session lists equate to 3.5PA's.

The consultant job plan includes 'annualised sessions' which can be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the individual and the department. Each annualised session is equivalent to the PA value of the session worked. This flexibility allows individuals to organise working patterns to support a better work life balance, whilst also ensuring we have cover within the department. It is expected that the post-holder will contribute to a proportion of annualised sessions within the field of neuroanaesthesia. The remaining annualised sessions will be within the general anaesthesia subspecialties with in the skill mix of the individual anaesthetist.
