Job summary

This post is for 12 months, and it is anticipated the post-holder will do 12 months working with the Trauma team. This post serves as an excellent steppingstone to get Orthopaedic registrar experience. St George's is one of four major trauma centres in London and they will gain valuable experience managing polytrauma patients.

The post-holder will be an important part of the on-call team, admitting patients from A&E, seeing patients in fracture clinic and will be in theatre with opportunities to undertake cases under appropriate supervision. The post-holder will be expected to undertake research resulting in publication and international presentations. We are fortunate to have a number of senior editors for peer review publications and a growing research team.

The training program director for SW London is based at St George's and we have a good record of getting junior trauma fellows into ST3 jobs which this post is ideal for. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of the department. You will have an assigned clinical supervisor and educational supervisor. The post holder will be expected to engage with ISCP and have regular educational meetings and complete work-based assessments. There are opportunities to teach undergraduates, engage in audit and perform service improvement projects to support future job applications and career progression.

Main duties of the job

About us

The Trauma & Orthopaedic Care Group currently has 23 Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition to providing elective and trauma services to its local population the Trauma & Orthopaedic Care Group offers several tertiary services including pelvic and acetabular reconstruction, lower limb reconstruction, complex hip and knee revision and spinal surgery.

Trauma & Orthopaedic facilities at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust include 2 dedicated orthopaedic wards (48 beds in total), a rehabilitation gym, a purpose built fracture clinic co-located with A&E and 3 dedicated orthopaedic theatres. The facilities are all located in the St James's Wing of St George's Hospital.
