This is a substantive post, that provides an opportunity for an enthusiastic physician to provide respiratory services at St George's Hospital. The successful candidate will join a group of 13 other consultants affiliated to the respiratory department at St George's. They would cover respiratory inpatient work, on a one week in eight basis, and respiratory out patient work in the other weeks. The sub specialist clinics provided in this post are TB and bronchiectasis as leads of both. There is also an opportunity to contribute to the EBUS service for SW London. There are opportunities in this teaching hospital to contribute to the medical education service at St George's Hospital.

We one of the major teaching hospitals in London with a busy secondary and tertiary service for respiratory diseases. The Trust offers a large number of specialised tertiary services (including thoracic surgery), as well as providing local acute services.

Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of the interview. The post is whole time, but we welcome applications to work less than full time.

The new purpose-built Atkinson Morley Wing is shared by neurosciences and cardiothoracic services. Accommodation is arranged over four floors, is built around inner courtyards and incorporates 233 inpatient and day case beds, eight operating theatres, and a range of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities.

This post holder would work with consultant colleagues in infectious diseases to provide the TB service here, with the opportunity to take on the lead for this service, and to run the bronchiectasis service. There is some flexibility in sub speciality work in addition or around this.
  • There is also the potential to participate in the delivery of the regional EBUS service.
  • To contribute to service developments
  • To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. Depending on the skills of the candidate, this could involve managing the respiratory clinical placements and other medical student clinical experience as well as the teaching program for the respiratory doctors
