Job summary
Neuroscience Day Unit Sister/Charge Nurse - Band 7
The Neuroscience day Unit (NDU) is a programmed investigations unit used by our Neurology, Neurosurgery and Chronic Pain services, and is currently based on Atkinson Morley Wing, 2nd floor, for patients to receive ambulatory care. The Infusion Lounge is located on Atkinson Morley Wing, 2nd floor, inside of McKissick ward where treats people with Multiple Sclerosis(MS) requiring Disease Modifying Therapy (given by infusion and injection).
With regards to neurology patients, this includes:
- Day case diagnostic e.g. Cerebral Angiogram and LPs
- Interventional radiology lists e.g Myelograms, discograms, cervical/Lumbar nerve root injections, LP under Xray guidance, nusineren in SMA patients
- Clinical review of patients to facilitate admission prevention or early review post discharge following surgery.
- Administration of intravenous infusions e.g. Rituximab/Infliximab & Cyclophosphamide Infusions, long term & emergent IVIG Infusions, Efgartigimod Infusions, IV steroids, Caffeine Infusion
- Headache clinics
- Spasticity clinics
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic nurse who will be responsible for the day to day clinical and managerial leadership of the unit. The post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills, demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
Your responsibilities as Ward Manager here at the Trust would be varied and would include
- Manage the day to day running of the ward , ensuring effective use of resources and high standards of care which is responsive to individualised needs by appropriate delegation of workload
- Work in close co-operation with the senior nursing team and multidisciplinary team
- Ensure effective communication at all levels
- Implement annual staff appraisal for all staff managed
- Identify and promote ways of improving the service, utilising all available resources.
- To undertake surveys or audits as required
- With support of the senior and junior team take appropriate action relating to complaints, accidents and serious untoward incidents involving patients, staff and visitors
- Demonstrate effective time management
- Take responsibility for the maintenance, storage and safety of the equipment in accordance with trust policy
- To act as the professional role model, leading and co-ordinating the nursing team.
- To have continuous responsibility for the management and organisation of the ward/department within the available resources.
