Job summary

Applications are invited for a substantive consultant general anaesthetist for providing anaesthesia in all main general subspecialties (vascular, gynaecology, urology etc), in major Head and Neck lists, major trauma and orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out their duties as a full-time Consultant Anaesthetist. The role will also offer the opportunity to deliver Anaesthetic sessions in a wider teaching hospital environment.

Job responsibilities

Excellent skills for advanced airway management and regional anaesthesia are required. The job plan is fully flexible and will include 3 session days. A proportion of these must be delivered on Mondays and Fridays. Delivery of the sessions will be discussed at the job planning meetings. This is a full time post at 10 PAs with 8.5 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5PAs for SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal and revalidation. There is potential to increase job planned hours to beyond 10PAs, should this be desirable.

Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience as described in the person specification in the job plan description. They should be on the GMC Specialist Register with a licence to practice. Experience of NHS working practices and systems is essential.
