Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a band 8A nuclear medicine clinical scientist to join a dynamic physics team at St. George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The team supports three gamma cameras onsite (two Intevo SPECT/CT and a Symbia S), a GFR service with Hidex and Wizard gamma counters, gamma probes for sentinel node biopsy and a radionuclide therapy service. The department actively supports training of STP trainees and opportunities for lecturing on courses and CPD will exist for the successful candidate. External support is provided to a fleet of PET/CT mobiles and local nuclear medicine and PET departments.
The successful candidate will act as an appointed MPE for nominated external sites and therefore applications from certified MPEs or those with sufficient experience to imminently apply for MPE certification will be considered favourably.
Main duties of the job
This post holder works as part of a team providing Medical Physics support to the Nuclear Medicine Department as part of the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group. The postholder provides specialised clinical scientific and technical services and computing support to diagnostic and therapy services in the Nuclear Medicine Department. Direct patient contact is with patients undergoing radionuclide therapy and when giving individual radiation protection advice.
The postholder also supports other scientific staff in the provision of a Medical Physics service to other sites to which a physics service is provided. This includes nuclear medicine and PET-CT services at both mobile and fixed site facilities. This involves performing calibrations and quality assurance, developing clinical imaging protocols and providing support to Radiation Protection Supervisors. The postholder will become an appointed Medical Physics Expert for nominated external sites in accordance with IRMER 2017 regulations and should be a certified MPE or sufficiently experienced to imminently apply for MPE certification.

The postholder will work as part of a dynamic team of Physicists in the Nuclear Medicine Physics group as part of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering department who provide support Nuclear Medicine, Radiopharmacy and a number of healthcare sites and mobile scanning facilities. Routine travel to externally supported sites is expected.
