Consultant Midwife for Intrapartum Care
This can be worked flexibly to reflect service need and fulfilment of role.
The salary range is 8b to 8c dependant on experience and qualification of pillars.
You will be an exceptional individual with vision and drive, passion and intellect as well as a possess a broad range of strategic and professional skills. The individual must be fully committed to safe midwifery and MDT practice and be able to demonstrate a high level of organisational, analytical and leadership skills. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence and be a team player ready to embrace and reflect the experience and existing and plentiful talents of all the existing MDT.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the education, training and development of intrapartum care locally, sector wide, regionally and nationally. The consultant midwife is expected to develop links with higher education institutions, Clinical Advisory Boards, regional NHSE colleagues and fellow senior midwives contributing to programmes of education supporting advances in intrapartum care and clinical management across these settings.

The aim of the Consultant Midwife is to be a role model, leading and aligning expert practice within the Intrapartum MDT and across midwifery, to ensure all midwifery practice is underpinned by a philosophy of maximising health and pregnancy outcomes for women of childbearing age.

As a visible and credible leader, you will provide highly specialist expert advice on all aspects of midwifery care within the intrapartum settings, with an emphasis on constantly seeking to improve outcomes for women at SGH and all those referred to us. The individual will provide strategic and operational leadership in the development of maternity services in SGH. You will continue to develop and advance excellence in clinical practice which is informed and influenced by robust evidence and new and emerging national recommendations.

The post holder must be a Registered Midwife with valid NMC Registration, educated at masters degree level with evidence of post registration education/development in midwifery. They will also provide evidence of / equivalent training in an aspect of implementation and improvement science / methodology. The successful candidate will be expected to have completed all 4 aspects of the required pillars. If a candidate is considered to be the most suitable but has not achieved all 4 elements of the pillar requisites, they will commence as a Band 8B until the requirements have been achieved.
