Applications are invited for this Senior Clinical Fellow post for Obstetric and Gynaecology with an interest in Myoma management. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior clinical fellow or post CCT/CESR fellow in obstetrics and gynaecology who wants to work in a busy London teaching hospital. The post will contribute to the senior registrar (ST6-7) on call rota.
Myoma Service Specialist Team: The substantive clinical team comprises two consultants Mr Sourav Das and Mr Hugh Byrne. The PA/Secretary for the Service is Ms Louise Jones. There are close working relationships with the Interventional Radiologists led by Ms Lakshmi Ratnam, based on St James's Wing.
Main duties of the job
Job summary: This post will be based in The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London. The successful candidate will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers in the efficient running of the Service. They will be expected to participate in the Trust's system of governance and audit, and maintain their CME/CPD. They will also have a commitment to participate in the Trust's professional development activities. The appointee will be expected to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedure, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.
The post-holder will also participate in the senior registrar (ST 6/7) equivalent on call rota. This is a 1 in 8 rota working night shifts (20.00-08.30) either weekday (Monday to Thursday) of weekends (Friday to Sunday) and weekends (08.30-20.00 on Saturday and Sunday). In addition to this, the clinical fellow would work four additional daytime sessions per 8 week rota cycle. In order to allow the fellow to complete their usual clinics, this cover would be from 5-8pm only on the days where there are other team commitments. This rota is supported by the junior registrar rota and acute gynaecology rota.

- 1 subspeciality trainee in feto-maternal medicine
- 3 clinical fellows
ST3-5 rota (1 in 8 rota)
- 5 deanery trainees
- 1 clinical fellow
- 2 AGU/DAU fellows contribute to ST3-5 rota
The Acute Gynaecology rota (1 in 8):
- 4 Acute Gynaecology Fellows
- 2 Day Assessment/ Fetal Medicine Unit fellows
- 1 colposcopy fellow
In addition there are 4 clinical fellows at equivalent to ST1/2 grade provide weekday cover (0900-1700) and 1 in 4 weekend cover (0900-1600).
Weekly duties: The post will involve fixed sessions to support the myoma service and additional flexible sessions to contribute to the general senior registrar rota. A proposed outline of this activity is below:

Training opportunities: This fellowship post is an excellent training opportunity for any senior trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the UK, EEA or from overseas who wishes to develop their benign gynaecology clinical/surgical skills. The post is ideally suited to any:-
- Post CCT obstetrics and gynaecology trainee who wants to develop their clinical and surgical skills prior to applying for a consultant post.
- Any Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee at ST6-7 or equivalent level of training who wishes to complete an Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) in benign gynaecology.
- Any overseas Doctor within or outside the EEA wishing to pursue further specialist training in benign gynaecology. The Doctor must be eligible to work within the UK and must have completed training in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to ST 6-7 level or above. The Doctor must hold the MRCOG or equivalent qualification.
Research methodology training: The post is especially suited to trainees who wish to undertake training in clinical research methodology. Although the post is for one year in the first instance, for the right candidate with the appropriate research aptitude the post is potentially renewable for another year to enable the completion of a higher degree (MD). There are a number of MD-potential research topics in place for which ethics approval is being sought. The suitable candidate will be involved in the development of the protocols and research programs from the commencement of the post, especially to allow application for extension of out of program experience.
Key working relationships: The fellow in the Myoma Service will work within a multi-disciplinary team that comprises the two Consultant Gynaecologists (Mr Sourav Das & Mr Byrne), the Interventional Radiologists (Dr Lakshmi Ratnam, Mr Raj Das and the whole team), Haematology and the Anaesthetists who work with the team. The Clinical Fellow underpins the collaborative working of the service, including being responsible for organizing the monthly MDTs and monthly research meetings.
