Job summary

The palliative care team provides a specialist advisory service for all patients within the Trust. The team sees over 1800 referrals/year of which greater than 50% have non-cancer diagnoses. The palliative care team runs a seven-day service offering routine reviews by a palliative care CNS between 9am - 5pm at weekends and bank holidays. This service is backed up by telephone advice from the on-call junior doctor for Trinity Hospice, who is in turn supported by the consultant on call which includes out of hours.

The team operates a "fast-track" rapid discharge service for patients in the last few weeks of life who have expressed a preference to die at home or in a nursing home.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide medical support to the hospital palliative care team at St George's Hospital NHS Trust (with consultant/StR supervision).
  2. Participate and contribute to audit, research and clinical governance activities.
  3. Participate and strengthen the continuing professional development educational programme.
  4. Contribute to the teaching of medical undergraduates and nursing and HPs.
  5. Provide input to 7 day face to face specialist palliative care service
