Job Title: Clinical Teaching Fellow with interest in Endometriosis & Benign Gynaecological Minimal Access Surgery and Honorary Clinical Lecturer

Role of the Department: The role of the Education and Development department is to support the Trust's strategic objectives for workforce development through education and development to enable the delivery of excellent and cost-effective patient care
Main duties of the job
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the main Teaching Hospital linked to St George's University of London and plays a significant role in medical students teaching. This post has been established to enhance the teaching of medical and physician associate students in the Trust and St George's Medical School. There is an Undergraduate Co-coordinator based at the Trust who can support the organization of teaching within the Trust.
This post will be responsible for under-graduate teaching activities within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology division and performing research in Endometriosis for 50% of the post holder's time during the week. Part of this time will be allocated to further develop teaching skills and to register for the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Education course. For the remainder 50% of the week, the appointee will be helping with the endometriosis clinics, theatres, consent clinics and the endometriosis MDT to develop the individual's career.
The post holder will teach and co-ordinate students across all the Obstetrics and Gynaecology division to ensure that students are able to achieve their learning objectives. There will be close liaison with other Clinical Teaching Fellows in the Trust, to enhance the coordination or undergraduate clinical teaching of medical students.

The successful candidate will play an important role in the development and delivery of clinical teaching to medical students on the St George's University MBBS programme. Teaching will include the design and delivery of face to face or virtual teaching sessions via university and Trust platforms,
Bedside teaching sessions, the appointee will organize and run a clinical skills course, using simulation to teach vaginal examination and speculum examination and clinical PBLs. The successful candidate must support the teaching of health, safety and infection control requirements including good hygiene practices, appropriate and safe use of scrubs/uniform and PPE for students. Administrative tasks will include timetabling and liaising with the lead for undergraduate teaching and the teaching coordinator.
There are two MBBS programs, a 5-year course in which students are predominantly school- leavers, and a 4 year fast track course for graduate students. Students are admitted through a competitive selection process. The two courses merge for the clinical years.

The department is involved in the formal medical student examination process including OSCEs in years T and P and the clinical finals in year F.
Clinical
The successful applicant will be responsible for
- Helping with One-stop Endometriosis Clinic
- Organizing and running the Endometriosis Theatres & actively participating in complex Gynaecological surgery
- Helping with the organization of Endometriosis MDTs
- Pre-op consent clinics and post-operative follow up and care of women with Endometriosis
- Taking part in clinical research related to Endometriosis
Supervision of all clinical work will be undertaken by Dr Suruchi Pandey, the lead for Undergraduate teaching & the Lead for Endometriosis. The nature of the attachment can be tailored to the needs of the post holder. The department provides excellent post-graduate training opportunities with teaching sessions and case presentations.
There will be a requirement to undertake flexible Acute Gynaecology weekend day on-calls when the service requires (1every 8-10 weeks), at an enhanced rate. Such on call responsibilities will be mutually agreed and will not impact on clinical work and on student teaching commitments.
