Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a speech and language therapist in an outstanding special school. Our team comprises of enthusiastic and motivated allied health professions (SLT and OT) and therapy assistants. It is a supportive and dynamic team with professional development opportunities and a high level of supervision.

The post offers a unique opportunity to develop a wide repertoire of clinical skills. To achieve our commitment to delivering evidence based, high quality and progressive services, we implement an innovative way of working in schools delivering SLT services at the universal, targeted and specialist levels.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Manage a diverse paediatric caseload within school.
• Make clinical decisions regarding intervention following the assessment of children on the caseload.
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of service delivery within the special school.
• Carry out therapy approaches specific to the population of children within mainstream schools.
• Work effectively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Work with parents, carers, teaching staff and other agencies involved in the children's care and to deliver appropriate training.
• Ensure a holistic approach is taken to the children's learning in schools and demonstrate enthusiasm, imagination, and initiative in meeting the needs of the caseload.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic speech and language therapist to take up an exciting opportunity available within our special schools' team. We are an extremely supportive and encouraging team so this would be an ideal early job opportunity.

You will have the opportunity to use and develop your skills to work collaboratively with a team of Specialist Speech and Language Therapists and education staff, delivering interventions that meet the needs of students with a variety of complex speech, language, and communication needs.

You will need to:

• Have a degree in Speech, Language and Communication Pathology and Therapy recognised by the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
• Be a member of the Health Professionals Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
• Experience of working with children with speech, language and communication needs ages 0-11 years of age.
• Understanding of the role of SLTs in a special school.
• Work as part of a multi-agency team
• Demonstrate excellent organisational skills
• Demonstrate the ability to work flexibly, under direction and independently where necessary.
