Job summary

  • To provide a clinical service in respiratory medicine as part of a team of respiratory specialists.
  • To participate in clinical and other service activities with the objective of ensuring a high standard of patient care. There are several options to develop a subspeciality interest in this role, and the job plan can be flexible to accommodate that. Opportunities include: cancer, COPD and integrated care, complex infection and TB, and sleep medicine. There is also the potential to participate in the delivery of the regional EBUS service

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or Equivalent.
  • Full registration with GMC.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Respiratory and General Medicine via: a) CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) b) CESR or c) European Community Rights.

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent).
  • Ability to bronchoscope independently and be able to supervise specialist trainees.
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate.
  • Post graduate teaching qualifications.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of Clinical Governance activities in the last year.
  • Demonstrable experience in teaching.
  • Evidence of an understanding of how one may set up a new service - business plans, service development.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary integrated respiratory team.
  • Teaching skills course/qualification.
  • Demonstrable experience in research with an appropriate publication record.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to take on independent clinical responsibility whilst working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership capabilities within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with GPs and other professionals in hospital and community.
  • Evidence of experience in day to day organisation of General Medical and Respiratory services in a hospital setting.
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit, must have undertaken and completed audit projects recently.
  • Familiarity with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.

  • Evidence of training to be an educational supervisor.
  • Ability to develop research projects and supervise trainees in their research.
